Also known as: E. Rubinstein

Ellis Rubinstein served as President and CEO of the New York Academy of Sciences for 18 years (2002-2020). EFTA documents reveal extensive correspondence with Epstein spanning 2011-2013, including over 72 emails. Rubinstein solicited Epstein's 'generous offer' to NYAS which was reviewed by the Executive Committee, sought Epstein's help securing Templeton Foundation funding, proposed Epstein fund a multi-year science prize or 'Scialogue' discussion series, and invited Epstein to the NYAS Gala. He actively brokered introductions between Epstein and prominent scientists including W. Ian Lipkin of Columbia University's Center for Infection and Immunity.

Boris Nikolic (Bill Gates' former science advisor) served as intermediary in the Epstein-NYAS relationship. In December 2012, Rubinstein and his family visited Epstein's private Caribbean island, with Epstein arranging boat transport and hosting them for lunch. His daughter Joanna Rubinstein accompanied him to the island, and her participation in this visit led to her resignation as chair of Sweden for UNHCR in February 2026 when the EFTA files revealed the connection. Rubinstein also had a social relationship with Eva Dubin (wife of Glenn Dubin), with planned lunches documented in the files.
