Pavel Gurvich
IDF Unit 81 graduate and Guardicore co-founder; recruited by Barak to source offensive cyberweapons startups; Epstein pursued Rothschild Group funding for the pipeline, per Drop Site News.
Pavel Gurvich is a graduate of the Israel Defense Forces' classified Unit 81, a technology and special operations intelligence unit distinct from the better-known Unit 8200. He served in Unit 81 from approximately 2001 to 2013, after which he co-founded Guardicore, one of Israel's most successful cybersecurity companies, which was acquired by Akamai Technologies in 2021 for approximately $600 million. According to investigative reporting by Drop Site News published in November 2025, drawing on leaked Barak emails, Ehud Barak recruited Gurvich after his military discharge to serve as the primary sourcing agent for a cyberweapons startup investment pipeline that Barak and Epstein sought to build and finance. Barak-Gurvich email correspondence reviewed by Drop Site News describes specific categories of technology being evaluated: Tor network surveillance tools, NSO Group-style cellphone exploitation software, and router compromise capabilities.
Epstein's documented role in this pipeline was capital formation. The Drop Site News investigation revealed that in October 2015, Epstein negotiated a $25 million investment contract with Ariane de Rothschild's Edmond de Rothschild Group in Geneva, with that capital designated for Barak's intelligence-linked security ventures. The same Southern Trust Company vehicle Epstein used to fund Barak's Carbyne (formerly Reporty Homeland Security) investment was employed in this arrangement. The Gurvich pipeline represents a second and distinct Israeli military technology stream beyond the Carbyne/Unit 8200 pathway. Where Carbyne focused on civilian emergency communications infrastructure, the Gurvich pipeline focused on offensive cyberweapons: tools specifically designed to compromise communications systems and track individuals.
Reason.com reported on the connection in August 2025; Drop Site News provided the detailed email-based documentation in November 2025.
