Zane, M.D., Medical Examiner, hereby certify that have performed an autopsy on the body of Paul Correia on August 28, 2013 in the Cape Cod Of?ce of the Chief Medical Examiner of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. EXTERNAL EXAMINATION: The body is that of a 67 inch, obese, white male appearing the reported age of 45 years and weighing 263 pounds. The scalp hair is brown, A beard and mustache are present. The irides are brown and the conjunctivas are congested. The corneas are cloudy. The natural facial ori?ces are clear. The gums are edentulous. The neck, torso, back, external genitalia and anus are unremarkable. The upper and lower extremities are symmetrical and are. normally developed. POST MORTEM QHAE Post mortem changes consist of full rigor and ?xed posterior lividity. CLOTHINQ: No clothing accompanies the body. THERAEEUTIQ An endotracheal tube is in the mouth. An LV. catheter is in the right shin. INJURIES EXTE LA INTER AL: RIGHT UPPER EXTREMITY: At the right axilla there is a l? by purple contusion. On the right lateral arm there are three contusions. The contusions are by purple and green in color, 1" by Vi" purple in color and 1" across purple in color. On the dorsum of the right 3rd and 4th ?ngers there are contusions measuring 1" by and across. Both contusions are purple. 0n the radial surface of the right forearm there is a faint purple contusion measuring 3" by At the base of the right thumb there is a 3/8" by 1/8" abrasion. 2013-1 1 123 Paul Correia 3 LEFT UPPER EXTREMITY: On the dorsum of the left 31rd ?nger is a 3/16? by 1/8" abrasion. At the nail of the left ?nger there is a 1/8" healing abrasion. 0n the dorsum of thele? hand there is a it? by 1/16" abrasion. On the dorsum of the left wrist there is a 3/8" by 1/8" abrasion. 0n the ulna surface of the left forearm there is a red?purple contusion measuring 3" by 1 RIGHT LOWER EXTREMITY: Overlying the right knee and right anterior leg are a cluster of faint purple and purple contusions in an area measuring 6" by On the right lateral thigh there is faint indistinct green contusion. LEFT LOWER EXTREMITY: On the left knee there is a healing abrasion measuring in?" across and on the anterior left shin there are punetate abrasions measuring up to On the medial left ankle there is a faint red contusion measuring 1 Vi" with a linear abrasion. There is no penetrating or blunt force injury of the head, neck, or torso. There are no petechial hemorrhages of the eyes or laryngeal mucosa. INTERNAL EXAMINATIQN: BODY CAVITIES: The lungs are expanded and the organs are in their usual anatomic locations. There are no adhesions or signi?cant fluid accumulations. HEAD: The scalp is without subcutaneous and subgaleal hemorrhage. The calvarium and basal skull are - intact. The external meninges are unremarkable, without epidural or subdural hemorrhage. The cerebrospinal ?uid is clear. The brain shows normal external symmetry and weighs 1300 grams. The brain is without old traumatic injury or natural disease processes. The vessels at the base of the brain are patent and pursue the usual courses. NECK: The lumen of the larynx and trachea are without of foreign material or abnormal secretions. The mucosa is congested and without petechial hemorrhages. CARDIOVASCULAR SYSTEM: The heart weighs 600 grams and the epicardial surface is smooth. The coronary ostia and coronary arteries are patent and the vessels pursue their usual courses. The myocardium is red-brown, ?rm and without focal abnormality. The endocardiuin and valves are unremarkable. The inferior vena cava, pulmonary artery and its major branches are without thrombus. The aorta is unremarkable. 2013-11 123 Paul Correia 4 SADDLE EMBOLUS OF THE RIGHT AND LEFT PULMONARY ARTERIES: There is a thrombus involving the right and left pulmonary arteries measuring cm. There are small clots in the vasculature of the left lung. Non-adherent blood clot is present in the vessel of the right and left calves. RESPIRATORY SYSTEM: The left lung weighs 430 grams; the right lung weighs 520 grams. The pleural surfaces are smooth and glistening. The has minimal congestion and edema without focal lesions. The bronchi are congested. LIVER, GALLBLADDER, PANCREAS: The liver weighs 2650 grams and has a smooth capsular surface with sharp anterior margins. The is red-brown, of the usual consistency and without focal abnormality. The gallbladder contains approximately 20 mL of green bile and the biliary passages are patent. The pancreas is unremarkable. AND SYSTEMS: The spleen weighs 240 grams and has an intact capsule. Its is purple and soft. There is no - GENITOURINARY SYSTEM: The left kidney weighs 200 grams; the right kidney weighs 190 grams. The cortical surfaces are granular. The kidneys have good corticomedullary de?nition and calyces and ureters are unremarkable. The bladder contains 2 mL of urine and the mucosa is unremarkable. The prostate gland is enlarged. ENDOCRINE SYSTEM: The thyroid and adrenal glands are unremarkable. DIGESTIVE SYSTEM: The tongue and esophagus are unremarkable. The stomach contains 20 mL of thick red ?uid and the mucosa is autolyzed. The duodenum and remainder of the small and large bowel are unremarkable. The appendix is present. MUSCULOSKELETAL SYSTEM: The skeletal muscle is red/brown, without focal abnormality.
