RE: LSJ Solar
Brannon explained the 15% line loss to me as =ollows:
Most of the loss is coming from the transformer =n LSJ converting the high voltage from cable to . Most =esidences do
not own the 'transformer' , WAPA owns the equipment, and =herefore bares the cost of conversion. In LSJ's case the
=ransformer is located on the Island and is owned by LSJ and therefore =SJ is baring the cost of conversion.
Based on your discussion =ith him is my understanding correct?

Jeanne,
That would be one way to do it, =ut if you know the cable size, length and material a calculation can be =one quite
accurately. You could also install a temporary power logger =ver a week or so and then compare that to the utility
meter.
If =he cable was sized properly it should be less than 2% losses. =br> We have an excellent electrical contractor in St.
Croix that has =een working for Hovensa for many years. Let me know if you want me to =ntroduce him.

Jeff,
We are trying to determine =f there is significant line loss between the meter on St. Thomas and =he transformer on LSJ.
One suggestion was that we purchase and =nstall an industrial grade current transformer(CT) monitor at the main
=eeder capable, to meter the power in real time and send it to a web =erver for review.
What do you =hink about this idea?
Thanks,
Jeanne

Please see attached; =APA bills, schematic of the electrical system and the generator specs. I will follow with additional
requests. =0:p>
Any additional information or questions let me =now.

Jeanne,
An excel history will be =ine for now, but can you at least send us the latest copy of a bill so =hat we can see if there are
any time-of-use and/or demand =harges. That type of data helps in our equipment sizing =alculations.
Thanks again,
Jeff

Jeanne,
Thank =ou for your time this afternoon and please forward this message to =nyone on your team that should have a
copy.
TIC =ill perform a preliminary feasibility study of solar energy production =n LSJ Island. We are familiar with the
challenges of designing =nd building solar in the Caribbean and have developed cost effective =olutions to meet these
challenges.
Our =nitial thoughts are that a solar PV plant sized to meet the entire =eeds of the island would most likely be the best
solution. This =ill require that we know as much about the electricity consumption and =eneration capabilities as
possible. Please, provide us with 12-24 =onths of VIWAPA electricity bills and if possible any interval or =ime-of-use data
on consumption. This data may be available from =trip charts or data logging of the generators when they were
=unning.
We would also like to have the name plate data on =he generators and a single line diagram of the electrical =ystem.
Also, please indicate on a map where we can locate =he solar array and battery station.
Thank you and have a Happy =hanksgiving,
Jeff
