Oversight of the Federal Bureau of Investigation - September 17, 2025

FBI Director Kash Patel testified at an oversight hearing before the House Judiciary Committee. A major topic of the hearing was the Epstein files--documents relating to deceased child sex offender Jeffrey Epstein--and if Patel would deliver on his previous calls to release the files. When asked how many times President Donald Trump was named in the files, Patel responded, "I don't know." Previous news reports indicated that Attorney General Pam Bondi informed Trump in May that he was named in the documents. Other topics included political violence following the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, personnel decisions at the FBI, and Patel's alleged ownership of Chinese stock. After Patel's testimony, the committee rejected several motions by Democrats to subpoena people with knowledge of the Epstein files.
