The Helicopter, the General, and the Billionaire: Tom Pritzker's Epstein Connection Runs Deeper Than He Admitted

Thomas Pritzker resigned from the Hyatt Hotels board of directors on February 12, 2026. In a statement, the Hyatt chairman said he had exercised "terrible judgment" in his relationship with Jeffrey Epstein. He did not elaborate on what that judgment involved.

The documents do.

More than 9,100 OCR-processed pages in the Epstein FBI file database mention Pritzker by name. The correspondence reconstructed from those pages shows a relationship that extended well beyond social dinners. Pritzker received property valuations on Epstein's private island. He forwarded political intelligence about a meeting between a former Israeli prime minister and a former American president. He appeared on curated guest lists alongside Epstein's closest financial allies. He was included on a 2012 invite list for a seminar Epstein titled "MONEY."

When Pritzker resigned, he framed the relationship as an error of association. The record suggests it was also an error of information sharing.

The Helicopter Email

In a message to Pritzker recovered in the Epstein-Pritzker helicopter email, Epstein referenced a specific incident involving a helicopter and explained why he had used one instead of another mode of transport to reach the property. "Some guy was fishing on the bridge," Epstein wrote, "hence the helicopter."

The email's precise context, which property and which bridge, is not spelled out in the recovered text. But its existence places Pritzker in active logistical communication with Epstein, not just social contact. Epstein explained operational decisions to Pritzker that would matter only to someone who had standing to ask about them.

Virginia Giuffre's Testimony

Virginia Giuffre named Thomas Pritzker in her 2016 deposition, taken as part of the Giuffre v. Maxwell civil litigation. That deposition is now in the public EFTA database under dc-24356886.

In the deposition, Giuffre was asked whether she had been sexually trafficked to anyone on a list of names. When asked about Pritzker, she testified: "I don't know exactly what he does, but I think he's some kind of academic." She then confirmed she had sex with him once, placing the encounter in Mexico. She was uncertain of her precise age at the time.

The Pritzker family's business empire, the Hyatt Hotels Corporation, is not an academic institution. Giuffre's characterization of him as an academic reflects the fact that, from a victim's perspective, the professional standing of her traffickers was not always made clear to her. What is clear is that Giuffre placed him in the same category she used for other men she named in the same deposition: individuals to whom Epstein directed her.

Pritzker has not responded to the deposition testimony directly. His resignation statement did not address it.

The MONEY Seminar

A 2012 email recovered from Epstein's files, catalogued as EFTA01983409, contains a draft invite list for two seminars Epstein was planning. One was titled "MONEY." The other was titled "POWER."

Tom Pritzker appears on the MONEY list alongside Jeff Bezos, Sergey Brin, Bill Gates, Danny Kahneman, Jaron Lanier, Nathan Myhrvold, Larry Page, Eric Schmidt, Jim Simons, Jes Staley, and Peter Thiel.

The POWER list includes Bill Clinton, Howard Gardner, George Mitchell, and Michael Ovitz.

The document is dated March 19, 2012, more than three years after Epstein's Florida conviction. By that point, Epstein had served his sentence and was free, but he was still operating under restrictions and was required to register as a sex offender in multiple jurisdictions. He was nonetheless planning intellectual salons and curating guest lists that included sitting Fortune 500 executives and former heads of government.

Pritzker's placement on the MONEY list, rather than the POWER list, indicates how Epstein categorized him: as a financial player, not a political one.

The Guest Lists

The dinner guest list recovered from Epstein's files shows Pritzker seated alongside Charlie Rose, economist Larry Summers, and Michael Bloomberg at an Epstein-hosted gathering. The document is dated from the period when Epstein was actively recruiting intellectual and political cover for his network.

Rose, Summers, and Bloomberg have each faced scrutiny for their relationships with Epstein. Rose lost his CBS and PBS television positions in 2017 over separate misconduct allegations. Summers, the former Treasury secretary and Harvard president, received millions in advisory fees from Epstein-linked sources while at Harvard. Bloomberg appeared in flight logs and social records from the same period.

The Barak Connection

The timeline of Pritzker's engagement with Epstein runs at least from 2010 through 2019. A September 2010 email, now in the database as EFTA02421326, shows Epstein's personal assistant Lesley Groff inviting Pritzker to a private dinner at Epstein's townhouse at 9 East 71st Street. The guest of honor was Ehud Barak, then serving as Israeli Defense Minister. Groff described the event as "very private, no agenda." Pritzker, writing from China where he was traveling, said he would try to attend but could not confirm until he returned home.

The Barak connection matters because Barak was one of Epstein's most documented close associates during the post-conviction period. Barak was recorded over the course of a three-hour conversation that investigators later described as significant, and he made payments to Epstein-linked entities totaling $2.3 million, which he characterized as consulting fees. The dinner to which Pritzker was invited was not a chance social engagement. It was a curated event for Epstein's inner circle, with the Israeli Defense Minister as the draw.

A separate 2016 text message in the database places Pritzker as the person Epstein was offering to introduce to another contact. "My very close friend Tom Pritzker, Hyatt hotels and chairman of CSI is in town," Epstein wrote. "Didn't know if you had any interest."

The Island Valuation

Among the most specific pieces of correspondence recovered is a message Epstein sent to Pritzker discussing the financial value of Little Saint James, his private island in the U.S. Virgin Islands. The Little Saint James property discussion includes Epstein's assessment of the island's worth and appears to be part of a broader conversation about the estate's financial structure.

Why Pritzker received property valuations for an island he did not own has not been explained publicly. The document suggests a relationship in which Pritzker had visibility into Epstein's financial planning, not just access to his social events.

Political Intelligence

Around September 2010, according to a correspondence record, Pritzker forwarded to Epstein a news article about a meeting between former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak and former President Bill Clinton. Barak was one of Epstein's closest friends during the period when Epstein was under federal scrutiny following his 2008 Florida conviction.

The forwarded article was not incriminating on its own. But it shows Pritzker monitoring and routing political information to Epstein about the movements of figures who were themselves linked to Epstein. Barak appeared in flight logs, guest lists, and wire transfer records in the same period. Clinton appeared in the flight logs and in depositions. Pritzker was feeding Epstein information about both.

Nick Pritzker

Thomas Pritzker's cousin, Nick Pritzker, appears in a separate thread of the Epstein documentary record. An email recovered from Epstein's files, dated June 1, 2011 and catalogued as EFTA01867296, lists Nicholas Pritzker among the recipients of a communication that also went to Paul Allen, Jeff Bezos, Stewart Brand, Sergey Brin, George Church, George Dyson, Ari Emanuel, Jeffrey Epstein, Tony Fadell, Bill Gates, and Elon Musk. The email concerns attendance at a meeting in Los Angeles.

Nick Pritzker was also invited to serve on the advisory committee for the Lawrence Krauss Origins Initiative, a science education project at Arizona State University. Krauss, a physicist, was one of Epstein's primary academic conduits and received substantial funding routed through Epstein-linked channels.

The Krauss connection is a thread that runs through the Epstein file's academic dimension. Epstein used scientific philanthropy as social capital, funding chairs and institutes in exchange for proximity to intellectual prestige. Nick Pritzker's invitation to the Origins advisory committee placed him in that network, whether or not he accepted.

The Published Record

A magazine article recovered from the Epstein files, now catalogued as EFTA01334040, listed Thomas Pritzker alongside Ronald Perelman, Leon Black, and Donald Trump as associates of Epstein. Black later paid Epstein $158 million in "advisory fees" and faced an internal investigation at Apollo Global Management. Perelman appeared on flight logs. Trump's name appears more than 3,000 times in the overall EFTA document set.

Pritzker's inclusion in that company was not accidental. The article was a social document that mapped Epstein's network during a specific period. Someone on Epstein's staff thought it was worth keeping.

After the Resignation

Pritzker's February 2026 resignation came amid broader pressure on Epstein associates still holding corporate board seats. Several others stepped down in the same period, citing similar language about judgment and regret.

What distinguishes Pritzker's case from some of those others is the volume and specificity of the correspondence. Most associates who have resigned could point to a finite set of social interactions. The documentary footprint around Pritzker's name, spanning emails from 2010 through 2019, a Giuffre deposition, the MONEY seminar list, and the island valuation correspondence, suggests something more structured. He received property information. He forwarded political intelligence. He attended curated events with Epstein's financial circle. He was named directly by a trafficking victim.

Hyatt's board accepted his resignation without a public statement about what review, if any, it had conducted of his relationship with Epstein. Pritzker's spokesperson said he is cooperating with any ongoing investigations and has no further comment.

The resignation ends his formal corporate role. It does not close the question of what he knew and when he knew it. The documents in the federal database are not going away. Investigators in New York, New Mexico, and abroad are still working through them.
