Melania Trump & the Epstein Files: Claims vs. Documents

On April 9, 2026, First Lady Melania Trump made a rare public statement from the White House denying ties to Jeffrey Epstein. Five of her specific claims are checked below against documents in the DOJ Epstein Files Transparency Act release, Epstein's own emails, and an FBI FD-302 proffer interview. What the documents show

Melania Trump is named by a cooperating witness in an FBI FD-302 proffer interview.

FBI FD-302 proffer interview, case file 31E-NY-3027571, interview date 09/09/2019 (drafted 07/22/2019). A cooperating witness told the FBI that Paolo Zampolli and Jeffrey Epstein were trying to buy Elite Models together, that Epstein introduced Melania Trump to Donald Trump, and that Epstein was at Zampolli's agency during casting auditions reviewing portfolios.

Zampolli is the modelling agent who brought Melania to the United States for his agency, ID Models, where she was signed from 1996. Her public account that she first “crossed paths” with Epstein at a social event in 2000 does not account for Epstein's documented presence at the agency where she worked.

The FBI FD-302 cooperating-witness statement says Epstein did introduce Melania to Donald Trump.

See Claim #1. The same FD-302 proffer interview contains the witness's statement: “EPSTEIN introduced MELANIA TRUMP to DONALD TRUMP.” This is an FBI interview record given under a proffer agreement; it is the sworn account of a cooperating witness, not a media claim.

Her 2002 email praises a New York Magazine article that contains Donald Trump’s own on-the-record quote about Epstein’s preference for young women.

Melania's October 23, 2002 email to Ghislaine Maxwell reads:
Dear G, How are you? Nice story about JE in NY mag. You look great on the picture… Give me a call when you are back in NY. Have a great time! Love, Melania
The New York Magazine article she praised includes Donald Trump's own quote about Epstein:
It is even said that he likes beautiful women as much as I do, and many of them are on the younger side.
The email is not a trivial note. It is a positive endorsement of an article quoting her future husband in print about Epstein and younger women, sent to the woman who would later be convicted of sex trafficking.

Epstein’s own January 31, 2019 email says Donald Trump “knew about the girls” and asked Ghislaine Maxwell to stop.

Addressed to Michael Wolff on 01/31/2019:
virginia roberts worked at mara lago. she was the one that accused prince andrew. trump said he asked me to resign, never a member ever. of course he knew about the girls as he asked ghislaine to stop.
This is Epstein's direct statement in an email. It is preserved in three separate archives in the EFTA release and the House Oversight production.

No public document asserts she was. This statement is not contradicted - but it is a response to a question no credible source has raised.

No court filing, victim statement, or investigative report in the EpsteinExposed index has ever characterised Melania Trump as a victim of Epstein. The April 9 statement rebuts an allegation that appears nowhere in the documentary record. Listed here for completeness so this report addresses every claim made, not only the contested ones.
