Executive Summary
David Geffen — co-founder of DreamWorks SKG, creator of Geffen Records and Asylum Records, and owner of the 460-foot mega-yacht Rising Sun — appears in 371 unique documents across the EFTA production after noise filtering (removing institutional references to the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA and David Geffen Hall at Lincoln Center). The corpus reveals that Epstein actively brokered access to Geffen on behalf of Bill Gates and Boris Nikolic from 2011 through at least 2013, using intermediaries including Richard Merkin, Jes Staley, and Peggy Siegal. An email directly from Geffen himself survives in the production.
What makes the Geffen file architecturally significant is not proximity but pursuit: Epstein functioned as the access broker who could promise a path to Geffen, and Gates, Nikolic, and others relied on that promise. The corpus documents at least three separate campaigns to "get to Geffen," revealing Epstein's operational role as a social fixer for the world's most powerful people — even after his 2008 conviction.
I. The Gates-Geffen Brokerage Pipeline (2011–2013)
A. Boris Nikolic Asks Epstein for Access (June 2011)
The earliest documented Geffen pursuit begins on June 24, 2011, when Boris Nikolic — then science advisor to the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and later named as backup executor in Epstein's 2019 will — emailed Epstein:
"Do you know David Geffen?"

This was embedded in a casual exchange where Epstein offered Nikolic a New York apartment for the week ("dinner sun mon? do you want an apt for the week? save some nmoney") and Nikolic was asking about the Lemelson Foundation.
B. Nikolic Reveals the Plan: A Dinner with Bill (July 2011)
Three weeks later, on July 17, 2011, Nikolic revealed why he wanted Geffen:
"Also there is another issue (do not mention this) — I need to get David Geffen to a dinner with Bill. Will invite you and les as well — but need to get to Geffen first."

"Bill" is Bill Gates. "Les" is likely Les Wexner or Les Moonves. Nikolic explicitly asked Epstein not to mention this — a secrecy directive about arranging Gates-Geffen access.
C. Epstein Activates Two Intermediaries (July–August 2011)
The same day, Epstein emailed Nikolic:
"i am getting to geffen,,, your jon is to tell dick to be extra nice to jes, they have traded calls."

Two weeks later, on August 1, 2011, Epstein emailed Jes Staley (then CEO of JPMorgan's Investment Bank):

This reveals the routing: Nikolic → Epstein → Jes Staley → Staley's brother → Geffen. A four-hop access chain.
D. Epstein Tries Richard Merkin (January 2012)
By January 2012, with the Staley channel apparently not producing results fast enough, Epstein tried a different route through Richard Merkin (physician, art collector, philanthropist):
"gates would like to meet with DAvid geffen . ideas?"

Merkin responded four days later:
"Geffen is not in town. I called Mike and he said he would have him call."

"Mike" is likely Mike Ovitz or another mutual contact who could reach Geffen directly.
E. Nikolic Keeps Pushing (September 2012)
On September 24, 2012, Nikolic was still asking:

F. The Intimate Gates-Geffen-Nikolic Dinner (September 2012)
The pipeline eventually produced results. On September 22, 2012, Nikolic told Epstein:
"Bill is having a small dinner in his home with just David Geffen and me."

In the original email, Epstein had told Nikolic: "you can invite david rubenstein to lunch on monday with LArry summers and ehud barak ,,,,,your calll." The casual power brokering — Rubenstein, Summers, Barak — was business as usual.
G. The Bill Gates–Warren Buffett–Geffen Email Chain (August 2013)
The most revealing document in the entire Geffen corpus is a forwarded email chain from Bill Gates himself, routed through Nikolic to Epstein:
August 7, 2013 — Bill Gates wrote to Boris Nikolic:"An article on Geffen you may have seen... It is a shame we haven't figured out how to get him connected with IAVI — he would enjoy being their savior. We should try one more time somehow. If we could catch him when he is in New York and get him to visit that would be great. Maybe a note to him about this would help..."

The article had been forwarded to Gates by Warren Buffett's assistant, Debbie Bosanek:

IAVI is the International AIDS Vaccine Initiative, a Gates Foundation priority. Gates wanted Geffen as a major donor.
August 11, 2013 — Gates wrote back to Nikolic:"At some point I need to figure out my whole East Coast schedule. There are a lot of things possible including the dinner Jeffrey proposed and some stuff you proposed."

"Lauren is helping. I asked her to give me all times/slots. Please do not forward message below. Getting Geffenn would be great."

"Lauren" is Lauren Jiloty, Gates's executive assistant. "The dinner Jeffrey proposed" — Gates is explicitly referencing a dinner Epstein proposed, in an email chain about pursuing Geffen. This places Epstein at the center of Gates's social scheduling.
September 2013 — Nikolic forwarded Gates's full NYC trip itinerary to Epstein:"This would still leave some time perhaps to see Geffen or Lauder if they happen to be around and free for one of the times I am free."

Gates's NYC schedule for September 20–25, 2013 included Foundation meetings, a Lasker event, Norwegian dinner, Boston science meetings, and a Comcast meeting — with Geffen and [Estée Lauder heir Ronald] Lauder as "if they happen to be around" targets. This email chain was forwarded to Epstein.
II. Email from David Geffen Himself (March 2013)
One document contains an email directly from Geffen. On March 5, 2013, Peggy Siegal emailed Geffen:
"David...your boat is right off Jeffrey Epstein's island. He wants to know if you want to come over and see it and him."
Geffen replied:
"I am on Diller's plane returning to NY. We would have been delighted to but can't. Perhaps the next time we are in the neighborhood. Thanks. Send Susan my regards, dg"

The subject line: "Rising Sun Tuesday" — Geffen's 460-foot yacht was anchored within sight of Epstein's island. Siegal forwarded Geffen's reply to Epstein with just "FYI."
"Susan" is likely Susan Lacy, the documentarian who produced Inventing David Geffen for PBS American Masters — Siegal was having lunch with Lacy that day. "Diller" is Barry Diller, Geffen's close friend.
This is the only document in the EFTA production containing words written by David Geffen. His tone — "we would have been delighted to but can't... perhaps the next time" — suggests polite social familiarity rather than either intimacy or hostility.
III. The St. Barths Yacht Circuit (2009–2014)
Geffen's Rising Sun was a fixture of the St. Barths New Year's flotilla, where Epstein's social circle converged annually. Peggy Siegal's dispatches to Epstein provide a detailed map of this world.
Christmas 2009 — Rising Sun Passenger List
Siegal described the yacht's Mediterranean cruise passengers to Epstein:
"Then dove into a conversation about David Geffen/Larry Ellison's 418' boat, 'Rising Sun' that Bruce just came off. You may know...other passengers were Mike Nichols, Diane Sawyer, Hanks, Nora Ephron, Sandy Gallin...(Tony Blair was on earlier)."

Tony Blair, Geffen's former guest on Rising Sun, is a recurrent figure in the Epstein network.
Christmas 2010 — St. Barths Guest List
Siegal's master list for the 2010 St. Barths season placed Geffen in the flotilla:

Christmas 2012 — Lunch on Rising Sun, Then Ghislaine's Birthday
On Christmas Day 2012, Siegal emailed Epstein:
"Had lunch on Rising Sun with David Geffen today. He is so smart, knows everything about entertainment and such a joy to talk to. Do NOT think less of me....I am going to Ghislaine's birthday dinner on a boat called 'Akula' tonight because I have nothing else to do. Will report back...in detail. Boat is next to 'Rising Sun'."

The geographic proximity is striking: Geffen's Rising Sun, Ghislaine Maxwell's birthday boat Akula, and the wider flotilla of billionaire yachts were all anchored in the same harbor.
December 2012 — "David Geffen coming on the 29"
Days before Christmas 2012, Siegal previewed the arrivals for Epstein:
"Ronald Perelman coming on the 23. David Geffen coming on the 29. Dasha Zarcovia — having New's Year Eve."

New Year's 2013–2014 — Detailed Dispatches
Siegal's extended New Year's report, sent to Epstein on January 5, 2014:
"During the past two weeks I managed to worm my way into lunch on Dasha and Roman Abramovich's 300 foot 'Luna', Davis Geffen's 460 foot 'Rising Sun', Leon Black's 160 foot 'Starfire', Austin Hearst's 70 foot catamaran 'Slim' and Len Blavanik's 250 foot 'Odessa II'."
And:
"Floating nearby was David Geffen on his 460 foot, 'Rising Sun'. He spent a quiet night with Robbie Robertson, Carol Bayer Sager and Jimmy Iovine."

December 2013 — Sandy Gallin Drama
Siegal reported to Epstein about Sandy Gallin, Geffen's former partner and longtime entertainment manager:
"Sandy was supposed to be on David Geffen's boat, but David ignores Sandy's blond uneducated boyfriend and the boyfriend refused to come on 'Rising Sun'....so Sandy went to Donna Karan's. David G. made a rare appearance on dry land....and was the hit of the party."

IV. The Nikolic YGL/Nicole Reference (June 2014)
In a text message thread extracted from a mobile device, Boris Nikolic texted Epstein on June 27, 2014:
"Talked to Nicole. I gave her some advice and will submit her application. Nevertheless if you want her in you might also ask Larry summerss, David Geffen or prince Andrew (Larry is the far best)."
Followed by:
"Her chance is not that high right now as off all ygl — it is the hardest for finance sector — you need to be exceptional, have a large track record and a lot of of sum."

"YGL" is the World Economic Forum's Young Global Leaders program. "Nicole" is likely Nicole Junkermann, a frequent figure in the Epstein network. Nikolic lists Geffen alongside Larry Summers and Prince Andrew as people with influence over YGL selection — and Epstein as the person who could activate those connections.
V. Geffen on Epstein's Planning Lists
Geffen appears on multiple handwritten and typed lists in Epstein's records:

This stream-of-consciousness list places Geffen alongside Jorge Paulo Lemann (3G Capital), Roman Abramovich, Rupert Murdoch, Peter Thiel, Elon Musk, and Bobby Kotick — a who's who of Epstein's cultivation targets.
The same document includes a second occurrence: "peggy „ boris, geffen, jagband , terje, mette" — grouping Geffen with Peggy Siegal, Boris Nikolic, Thorbjørn Jagland (Nobel Committee chairman), and Terje Rød-Larsen (International Peace Institute).
A separate list (October 28, 2012) repeats this grouping:

VI. Ian Osborne Meets Geffen — "He'd Been to Your Island" (October 2012)
The most consequential Ian Osborne document is from October 24, 2012, when Osborne reported back to Epstein after meeting Geffen in Chicago:
"We just finished up in Chicago. A fun and interesting day. Geffen is flying back to LA tonight but is back in NY frequently, he just bought a new place on Fifth. He said [he'd] be glad to get together in NY or LA.... he knew a bit about you, but asked what exactly you 'did' and said [he'd] been to your island. Some funny stories about the Mid-East folks."

Epstein had written the day before: "i am more than happy to have geffen wed or thurs."
Note: The OCR text contains line breaks where "he'd" would appear ("He said [break] be glad..." and "said [break] been to your island"). These may be OCR artifacts from redactions or line wrapping. The natural reading is that Geffen (a) was willing to meet Epstein, (b) asked what Epstein "did" for a living, and (c) claimed to have previously visited Epstein's island.
This places the Osborne-Geffen meeting squarely in the middle of the Gates-Geffen pursuit: one month after the intimate Gates-Geffen-Nikolic dinner (September 2012) and two days before Nikolic's "Re Geffen. Any info is welcomed and needed" email (September 24, 2012).
The Abramovich-Geffen Boat Thread (February 2013)
In a separate thread about arranging meetings with Roman Abramovich and JY Lee (Samsung), Osborne mentioned:
"Sadly he's gone back to Russia — and went to join Geffen on his boat — but he's back in NY for the first two weeks of April."

"He" refers to Abramovich; Dasha Zhukova "went to join Geffen on his boat." The thread discusses arranging meetings between Epstein, Gates, Abramovich, and Samsung's JK Shin, with Osborne noting: "He is also interested to meet Gates — but only so long as he's not harassed about the Giving Pledge." Osborne also identified David Blaine as "David's [Geffen's] biggest client for private shows."
VII. The Peggy Siegal Screening Room Channel (2012–2017)
Peggy Siegal served as a persistent social conduit between Geffen's world and Epstein's:
October 2012 — Siegal sent Epstein screening invitations for the documentary Inventing David Geffen (PBS American Masters), hosted at the Paris Theater. Siegal's Hamptons social report to Epstein:

During the #MeToo wave, Siegal wrote to Epstein:

XI. What the Corpus Does NOT Show
- No direct Epstein-Geffen correspondence. Every communication is intermediated through Siegal, Nikolic, Merkin, Osborne, or others. The one Geffen email was written to Siegal, who forwarded it to Epstein.
- No financial transactions involving Geffen appear in the Deutsche Bank or other financial documents.
- A possible prior island visit. Ian Osborne reported (October 2012) that Geffen "said [he'd] been to your island" — but the OCR text has line breaks where the pronoun would appear, and the gaps may represent redactions. In the March 2013 invitation via Siegal, Geffen declined but said "perhaps the next time we are in the neighborhood," suggesting familiarity with the area. No other corroboration of an island visit exists in the corpus.
- No evidence Geffen attended Epstein's dinners at Epstein's properties. Nikolic reported a Gates-Geffen-Nikolic dinner at Gates's home (September 2012), and Geffen expressed willingness to "get together in NY or LA" (October 2012), but no documentation of a dinner at Epstein's residences appears in the corpus.
XII. Analytical Assessment
The Geffen file illuminates Epstein's operational model more clearly than many files involving closer associates. The architecture is:
This is the Epstein value proposition laid bare: he was the switchboard operator for a social network where even Bill Gates and Warren Buffett couldn't reliably reach David Geffen without routing through a convicted sex offender's access channels. The fact that Gates continued to use Epstein as a social scheduler — including "the dinner Jeffrey proposed" — in August 2013, five years after Epstein's conviction, demonstrates the durability of this dependency.
Geffen himself appears to have maintained distance. His one documented response was polite but declining. He was orbiting the same social universe — St. Barths, Rising Sun, Peggy Siegal's world — but the corpus suggests the pursuit was predominantly one-directional: Epstein and his network sought Geffen, not the reverse.
